Fixing Front Brakes - 2018 Royal Enfield Classic 350

Here's me Explaining how to fix front brakes on 2018 Royal Enfield Classic 350 for ₹200 in under 30min.When it comes to braking Royal Enfield Classic 350 brakes hasn't been good all along especially the old ones with no ABS and drum brakes on the rear. You have to plan the braking a mile away.

I personally have the Classic 350 from 2018 with not so common color " Chestnut Red" which does make it look vintage and real classic. I have used this bike for almost 9 years now still feels good  no problem with the engine but that's it rest is not that good, that's the reason I got Triumph Speed T4.

Classic 350

Rest aside coming back to braking performance which is horrible at every time, rear doesn't work and front feels spongy, and often fails like for real. The Master cylinder in the brake has O-Rings which wear out easily and the brake fails due to oil leaks and air inside the line. Now I have literally changed the Master cylinder more than 5 times and once I have changes the whole container. Now doing this in the Service center or at an garage is time consuming and Costly sometimes. So managed to do it my self actually most of the basic service on Royal Enfield you can do it on your own as it is mechanically sorted (Easy) machine (I'm talking about the older ones)

Starting with the Spares needed -

  1. Master Cylinder Kit - ₹175
  2. Dot 4 Oil - ₹50

Tools Needed -
  1. Srewdriver
  2. 12no. Round Spanner
  3. Circlip Plier/ Normal Plier
Getting started by removing the top cover of Brake fluid container, and the removing the bottom bolt near the brake piston and then draining the oil, basics over now to complicated stuff.
  • Remove the plastic part inside the container (that part is to spread the oil evenly while in motion)
  • Remove the Brake handle
  • Remove the line from the top
  • Remove the rubber - Where the Brake handle pushes into the container
  • Remove the Circlip - Inside the rubber
  • Remove the Master Cylinder
  • Remove the Filter inside the Container - Plastic one
  • Clean the internals of the container with petrol or WD and wipe it dry

Starting to assemble -
  • Change the master cylinder to new one press it inside from the side and insert a smart screwdriver from the hole in the container to hold it in place.
  • Then using the Plier fit the Circlip and fit the rubber pusher - tricky part finished now again to basics
  • Attach the bottom bolt near Pistons
  • Attach the line to container
  • Fit the filter inside the container
  • Attach the brake handle
  • Add Dot 4 oil let it settle and then start to remove the bobbles you can use any plastic thing and lightly hammer on the brake line from bottom to top till the air bubbles stop.
  • Now topup the oil to max and then insert the plastic part inside the container and screw the top and then check the braking if it feels spongy, brake few times it'll get clear out, will not get completely clear out, it is what it is.

This whole process took just over 30min and costed me ₹216 with discount pretty good and quite proud off job.
